Biography

Covington was born in Rockingham, North Carolina to Gene Covington and Debbie Gates on November 8, 1977 along with his identical twin brother, Robert Michael "Rocky" Covington. His biological parents would later divorce and his stepparents are Tracey Covington and Alan Gates. The Gates reside in Wagram. Bucky Covington was named after his grandfather, Buck.[1] He graduated in the class of 1996 from Scotland County High School. Bucky and Rocky Covington are both musicians, the latter being the lead singer of the North Carolina band Swamp Cat and also auditioned for American Idol but was cut in the first round of Hollywood. In 1998 when the Covington twins were 20 years old they were involved in a minor car accident in which Bucky was assumed to have pretended to be Rocky. They were charged for misleading police. The defendant was unable to accuse the right person since they looked too similar. [2] Before the American idol tour, Bucky and his brother painted cars as at Covington's Body Shop in Hamlet. Rocky is still painting cars as a day job there with their father Gene Covington. Bucky is married to his wife, Crystal, and they have a dog, named Slim.

Covington started to sing at the age of 18. Known for his long blonde hair, and his southern accent, Covington was represented as part of the American country music genre. He is also a guitarist, bassist, drummer and songwriter. According to his Idol web profile, Covington's favorite female artist is P!nk and his favorite male artist is Eminem. Over the years, Covington has been part of several bands, both country and rock. After some time, he elected to perform both original and cover material in a cross-genre vein.

In the 2005-06 season, Covington auditioned for American Idol in Greensboro. He was in the bottom three on March 22 along with Lisa Tucker and Kevin Covais. He was eliminated on April 12 when he was in the bottom three with Ace Young and Elliott Yamin.

Bucky is currently touring for GAC Country Christmas. The first Idol from his season to be on a non-American Idol tour[3].
