Sushmita Sen, is recorded in the realm of India as the first lady who is known to have created a sensation through winning the title of Miss Universe in the year 1994. She was born on November 19, 1975 at Hyderabad, in Andhra Pradesh and is a well known Bollywood actress.
Born to parents, a retired indian Air Force Officer and her mother Subhra Sen worked as a fashion artist and jewelry designer. She attended school at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in Delhi. In Delhi, she studied English and planned a career in journalism, but fate proved otherwise. In 1994, when she was just eighteen, she won the title of Miss India, narrowly beating out Aishwarya Rai, who was then the favorite to win the contest! The same smart attitude was perceived on behalf of Sen in the competition of Miss Universe, where she faced the preliminary winner Miss Colombia Carolina Gomez, and Miss Greece Rea Totounzi, who ranked second but won the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competitions. However, it was her sheer zeal and self-confidence that motivated the judges to place their votes on Sushmita, making her the first woman from India to become Miss Universe. After becoming Miss Universe, she joined the mainstream Hindi cinema world and appeared in her first movie, Dastak, in 1996, which eventually shattered in the box office. However, her subsequent movie Ratchagan in Tamil, was a huge hit. Again, it was two years later that her appearance as Rupali in themovie Biwi No.1 of David Dhawan that made her to win the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in the year 1999. It was on the same year, she was also nominated for her role in the movie Sirf Tum in the same category, making her an obvious choice for winner.
Till now, her biggest hit has been Main Hoon Na, released in 2004, also starred by Shahrukh Khan, in the role of the love interest of King Khan.
In her personal life, in 2000, she adopted a girl, Renee, as a single mother.
