Mayawati Naina Kumari is an Indian politician and also the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was born on January 15, 1956. She is the President of the Bahujan Samaj Party or the BSP,
and is widely perceived as the architect of the stunning BSP victory in the UP State Assembly Elections, 2007. however, in the earlier times, he had been the Chief Minister of the State for three times briefly during 1995 and 1997, and from 2002 to 2003 with support from the Bharatiya Janata Party. She also happens to be the first Dalit woman become the Chief Minister of any of India's states. But it should also be noted, that she belongs to the Jatav caste which is at the upper-end of the Dalit caste hierarchy in Uttar Pradesh. Though her politics was initiated in a Dalit platform, but due to the compulsions of politics, she has come closer to the Brahmins and several other upper castes, and her 2007 victory in assembly elections has been widely hailed as a result of such caste rainbow policies.
It was in 2003, when she was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati was accused of corruption by the opposition, when the legislators of the Samjwadi Party presented a video cassette and a CD to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, which they claimed showed Mayawati asking her MLAs to hand over money from their annual constituency fund towards BSP's party fund. Again, it was in the same tenure of 2002-2003 she was charged with corruption in the Taj Corridor scam, a project to upgrade tourist facilities near the wonder of the world, Taj Mahal. It was alleged that some Rs. 175 crore allotted to this project had disappeared and the case is at present under the jurisdiction of the Central Bureau of Investigation. But nothing stoped her sweeping the UP State Assembly election of 2007 and with a thumping majority. Here lies the essence and dominace of Mayawatiji, alleged as Bahenji.
